Tryna get back into drawing anime. Here's my previous work, I just wanna know what I should start off drawing again. I even made a manga in Manga Studio 5 for my biology assignment. I just used a teeny bit of reference from cells at work. (poses are original... somewhat.) I wish i could start coloring with copics but they too expensive, anyone got alternatives?
Maybe do commissions for irl $$ There's a whole market and way to make money when you have a talent for drawing. It's just a suggestion though. I don't know much about drawing anime.
That's some real nice stuff there. If you just want to get back into it, ask people for ideas to draw. Or just open commissions if you wanna get paid for it as well.
I would try to get away from anime tbh, maybe take a life art class for fun if available. cuz anime USED to be about capturing real life and giving it the twist of imagination. But anime today is all about trying to capture the way anime USED to look. Making shallow imitations from other imitations. no substance. Look at life itself more. Inspiration can come from the tip of a needle. You'll never draw what you really want if you're trying to imitate imitations. Like i said, take a life drawing class or ANY class and learn the basics (e.g. the human structure, lighting etc) just so there's nothing stopping you from knowing how to draw what you want.. And most importantly, You'll never be happy with your skills if you're not. Drawing. Often. ENOUGH. (same with going to the gym, or literally ANYTHING ELSE you want to get good at.) Career artists that make 6 figure incomes spend 3 hours practicing every day. Even if you want to draw just for fun, dedicating time for it goes a long way. Watch this fool spend 24 hours making his art exactly what he wants it to be. Notice how he constantly looks at books and other material for reference, looking at roman statues and the human form. Also here's an archive of official art material from anime, I use this a lot. Ended up buying many of these books and just staring at them for way too long. http://archive-scans.blogspot.com/
Uhh difficult to gauge your skills based on copied anime works, but based on technical skill you're p good. If you're trying to improve/advance your drawing skills draw from real life everyday as often as you can. As for what to draw, draw what you enjoy/naturally do. Draw from references, look at tutorials, resources, etc. Just do it and do it a lottttt. Do what you like.
Here's a drawing I never finished. (just posting to say I know what I'm talking about) "Hands-Free" 4x5in' Notebook Paper, Ballpoint pen Spoiler
This is damn nice. I draw copied work to get an idea on how to use guidelines and to memorize the characteristics of some characters. The manga I made wasn't particularly copied, I just used unoriginal characters since it was a manga on cells, hence, using cells at work characters. I'll show you some original poses that I formed. Spoiler: HxH Drawing This was a drawing I did on a whim. Some characters I straight ripped cuz ** that i finna do this in class. But some I made originally somewhat like Netero and Neferpitou here. (Far left and far right) Spoiler: Blurry Gin Self Explanatory, I drew this in class trying to see how I can turn gin and make him in a 3/4 pose, 5 min sketch Spoiler: My fav, Zero Two This was my best one, since it's an original pose and design, excuse my sht phone quality, I was running at 2%. I was happy about this drawing cuz i didnt fking copy it Spoiler: lastly, some fkin sketch I bought some japanese pens and wanted to test them out, sht todoroki cuz i drew it from scratch af. I don't draw unoriginal stuff to put it out there, I just wanted to test how I can use various techniques and such. These drawings are the outcomes of this practice. Thank you guys for your advice though, I really appreciate it.
Oh, and this was the process of my manga creation, I used reference, but hencewise, my poses were sketched.
@iHumza There's nothing wrong with copying/referencing!! i'm not trying to call you out or anything. Do what works for you and what you enjoy. d: But keep in mind irl is best reference to learn from hehe.
mb, i didnt mean to make it sound like i was trying to prove a point. Just wanted to showwhy i imight copy. Thank you for your suggestions tho, I can use these tips to my advantage. Also your artwork is very nice, keep it up
I was mostly saying your own creativity is worth building on I started out at first by tracing over megaman zero art. Whatever gets your creative juices going, just don't stop! This was my favorite image to trace. Taught me a couple things Like, what if I could draw like this? (was my thought process when there was nothing but fascination, around 10 years old)
